Never forgotten The film Survival in Shanghai was screened at the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee's Board of Directors meetings held at the Westin New York Grand Central Hotel in New York on Monday. The documentary explores the refuge provided to European Jews who fled Nazi oppression and found safe haven in Shanghai during World War II. From left: Rabbi Arthur Schneier, founder and president of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation and senior rabbi of Park East Synagogue; Zhang Meifang, China's deputy consul general in New York; Ellen Chaim Kracko, who was born in Shanghai and whose parents were Jewish refugees in Shanghai; and Ren Meixing, operations director of Shanghai Media Group News Center, who is also the US unit co-producer. "History can never be forgotten," Zang said. "When we look back into one of the darkest chapters in the history of mankind, we see the profound friendship between our two great peoples."
