Tian's 1999 play returns
In 1999, Tian Qinxin rose to fame for her drama, The Field of Life and Death. Adapted from Xiao Hong's 1935 novel by the same name, the play portrays the miserable lives of farmers in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, the author's homeland, in the 1920s and '30s. Now, 16 years later, Tian has gathered the original cast to restage it in Beijing. The lead performers are Han Tongsheng (pictured above, right), 61, and Ni Dahong (above, left), 55.

Teen sensation to sing
Liu Shen (above), 14, will give a singing recital at the Forbidden City Concert Hall, featuring arias from Italian operas. Born to faculty members of the Central Conservatory of Music, Liu displayed a gift of singing at age 3 and started to learn some opera arias at 5. He joined the children's choir of the China National Symphony Orchestra at 6. Piano accompaniment will be played by Huang Yameng, Liu's teacher for the past four years.

Philadelphia choir's China tour
Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale (below) will tour China this summer. Established in the 1960s, the choir has won both Emmy and Grammy awards. In the past five decades, it has developed a varied repertoire combining classical, traditional, popular and patriotic songs.

Particles in motion
Finland's Glims & Gloms dance company will perform Papulabox at the ongoing International Children's Theater Festival by China National Theater for Children. In the play, papulae atoms and protons find out about different mathematical concepts. Founded by choreographers Simo Heiskanen and Tuomo Railo in 1999, the dance company produces performances for both children and adults.
