Eagle Standing on Pine Tree by Qi Baishi sold for a record $65 million at China Guardian auction house in May 2011.

China emerged as the world art-market leader in 2011, placing six artists on the European Fine Art Foundation's list of the top 10 best-selling artists by auction revenue. The rankings:

1 Zhang Daqian (China) (1899-1983), $550 million.

2 Qi Baishi (China) (1864-1957), $510 million.

3 Andy Warhol (US) (1928-87), $325 million.

4 Pablo Picasso (Spain) (1881-1973), $315 million.

5 Xu Beihong (China) (1895-1953), $220 million.

6 Wu Guanzhong (China) (1919-2010), $212 million.

7 Fu Baoshi (China) (1904-65), $198 million.

8 Gerhard Richter (Germany) (1932- ), $175 million.

9 Francis Bacon (UK) (1909-92), $129 million.

10 Li Keran (China) (1907-89), $115 million.
