"Fashion," says Zhang, the singer, "is not only about what we wear and how we match dresses and accessories. Fashion is a lifestyle. Wearing Michael Kors reminds me of life in Manhattan, which is full of energy and passion for art."
Jiang, the actress, says: "I think China's young generation is becoming more sophisticated and knows well what they want. That is also what Michael Kors represents."
Her words mirror exactly what Kors feels about the country's young women.
"My favorite is working with one who know what she wants, who says: 'This is my life!' I like opinionated women. The Chinese customer is very well-informed and sophisticated. She does her fashion research; she watches the show; she takes notes; she takes pictures; she uses social media. So when she shops, she is very knowledgeable."
Kors also commissioned South Korean illustrator Kim Jae-suk to visually tell the story of the brand's development from New York to Beijing. The illustration, featuring Michael Kors products set upon the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven and other landmarks of Beijing, can be seen on the brand's WeChat account.
