The two most important conferences each year for China have no time to waste for the delegates who do not have any meaningful proposals, and all delegates must cherish their opportunity to attend the conference, given there are many problems confronting China now, says an editorial in Beijing News. Excerpts:

The annual meetings of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference are being held this month in Beijing. More than 5,000 delegates attending the two sessions come to Beijing from across China. They are supposed to represent a large number of people. But past experience indicates some delegates do not have any meaningful proposals. No wonder some delegates are embarrassed when questioned by reporters.

All delegates are elected according to legal procedures. They should not treat the conferences as a show. The conference attendees must regard their election more as a serious responsibility than a kind of honorary title or symbol of social status.

Their powers as delegates are given and granted by the people. The delegates should not disappoint those who elected them.
