Hong Kong's volume of goods exports down 5.1% in July

HONG KONG -- The volume of total goods exports in Hong Kong fell 5.1 percent in July from a year ago, the city's statistics department said Tuesday.
The volume of goods re-exports decreased 5.2 percent over a year earlier, while that of domestic exports decreased 1.1 percent. At the same time, the volume of goods imports fell 3.8 percent.
Comparing the first seven months of 2012 with the same period last year, the volume of goods re-exports decreased 4.4 percent, while that of domestic exports dropped 19.6 percent. Taken together, the volume of total goods exports slid 4.7 percent. The volume of goods imports lost 2.9 percent.
Comparing July with the same month last year, the prices of goods re-exports rose 2.2 percent, while those of domestic exports increased 1.1 percent. The prices of total goods exports added 2.2 percent. The prices of goods imports climbed 2.8 percent.
