BEIJING - State Councilor Meng Jianzhu has urged the country's law enforcement officers to ramp up security in order to create a "harmonious and stable" social environment for the upcoming congress of the Communist Party of China.

Meng asked police officers to boost their capacity to safeguard national security and social stability at a seminar held in Beijing that was attended by hundreds of new police chiefs from multiple counties and cities.

The 18th National Congress of the CPC is scheduled to be held later this year.

Law enforcement officials should put the core values of "loyalty, serving the people, fairness and honesty" into practice and boost their relations with the public, said Meng, who is also minister of public security.

More than 1,400 police chiefs have been invited to participate in three seminars sponsored by the Ministry of Public Security starting from June this year. The first seminar was held from June 26 to July 3.
