An 18-kilogram baby came into the world at Perth’s King Edward Memorial Hospital in Australia, breaking the weight record for a newborn.
The woman who gave birth is a single mother and she herself weighs 272 kg. The doctor who oversaw the birth at first thought she was expecting twins or even triplets.
Both the mother and son are in good condition and there were no complications during the delivery.
The baby broke a long-standing record set by a South African baby, born in 1839, which weighed 17.2 kg.
