An Indian city has said people will be paid one rupee every time they use a public toilet instead of defecating indiscriminately in the open air.
Officers of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation have created a pilot campaign, creating 67 toilets in places where public urination and defecation are the worst.
Health officer Bhavikk Joshi said if the pilot project is successful, it will be promoted across the city in the West Indian state of Gujarat.
After the campaign comes into force those who continue to relive themselves in public will face heavy fines.
